United Football League UI Case Study

This project focuses on improving the user experience of the United Football League's (UFL) digital platform. By identifying flaws in the structure and usability of the scheduling and roster pages, the goal was to deliver intuitive, accessible, and research-backed solutions tailored to fans. The redesign was centered on enhancing clarity and engagement while maintaining consistency with industry standards.

Problem Identification

The identification of the problems was a process that began with the examination of the United Football League's (UFL) digital platform. It became clear through a series of analysis that the scheduling and roster pages served as a work in progress.

The fan experience was limited through overwhelming and inconsistent structures when attempting to access game and player information.
Solution
With research outcomes in mind, I redesigned the schedule and roster pages with the following solutions:

- Implementing dropdown filters for sorting schedules by date.

- Designing clean, visual player cards for intuitive roster browsing.

This redesign improved how users interacted with the site, making content easily accessible and visually engaging.

My Role

Project Lead

The project was initiated and led through my vision. Through the formation of a foundation from the sports design industry and user interface best practices, I took the lead role in shaping the project goals and direction.

I collaborated with two group members, researching competitor platforms, and assessing UI standards across the sports industry, and identifying common biases that are implemented in traditional platforms. The overall goals reflected analysis of specific UI elements with the UFL website for improvement.

Through my specific role, the focus surrounded prototyping functional, research-backed solutions. Every decision and research outcome are tailored to effective revision, ensuring the final product is aligned with user expectations while enhancing the accessibility.

Outcomes

Enhanced user experience and fan engagement.

Gained experience balancing innovation with feasibility.

Deepened my understanding of design standards in the sports industry.

Home Page

This page was recreated based on the original layout of the UFL website. While no major visual modifications were made, it serves as a functional entry point that connects users to the redesigned pages within the project.
Roster Page

The redesigned roster page uses the Birmingham Stallions as a reference to implement the user-centered improvements. The layout was restructured to include dropdown filters, enabling users to quickly navigate between roster sections and view individual player profile cards with ease.
Schedule Page

The updated schedule page features a dropdown filtering system that enables users to sort through games by week. This enhancement streamlines navigation, reduces excessive scrolling, and delivers a more efficient browsing experience.
